Contest to Name Cheetah Coming
Here is a little sunshine to make this bad weather seem tolerable! The media got to meet the little guy that Busch Gardens in Tampa is calling their ambassador of conservation and endangered species. Do you think that the attention the Cheetah gets will remind people to care for the habitat in which these animals live?
Think about it.
In the meantime, extra credit (5 points) if you can tell me how many weeks old the cub is right now.
Start thinking of names for the Cheetah too-and if you write it down and tell me why you want to name it that, I will give you 5 more points!
Relax and have a fun Thursday!

Nightfall..
Not a seven wonder but recognizable....what is it?
Toy Story at the Flower and Garden Festival
This was amazing and smelled like strawberries like Lotso does in the third movie.
It rained all day and night....very wet!
Thanks for commenting!

Tell Everyone You Know to Adopt Our Class!
We have a great opportunity to raise money for our classroom. I would like to purchase a Vocabulary and SpellingCity.com premium membership ($49.99) for a year, for our class to be able to have a wider variety of resources on the site as well as the ability to take our spelling tests through the internet and have them graded and managed through my account (can you say cool data tool?!). I was able to get $400 dollars earlier this year for our podemeters and I know this will be a breeze with the wonderful people in our community helping out. No donation is TOO SMALL! Click the "widget" below to link to our classroom homepage and donate! If you cannot donate, that is OK! Pass this along to spread the news. Thank you so much!
There is another "widget" on the right handside of the blog to click at anytime.

Pass It On! Reading, it's catchy...
I remember when I was growing up that there weren't as many TV shows on for me to watch and I certainly didn't have access to technology like you guys do, meaning I didn't have a cell phone or an iPod or even video games to keep me busy!
I did, however, have books. I read "The Babysitter's Club", "Nancy Drew" and "Sweet Valley Twins" among other things all the time. My best friend across the street used to read a book in these series and then would "pass it on" to me. I would then read it and pass it onto someone else who might enjoy it. My friend would tell me why she liked the book and I would then read it and tell her why or why not I agreed with her (agreed was a vocabulary word this week-you know what it means!).
That being said, click on the "widget" (hey, I love that word!) below and see what the global literacy campaign is urging us to do. I have the "Pass It On" sheets so that when we get back from Spring Break, you can fill them out and pass your own books (even classroom ones) on to friends.
The big "Summer Reading Challenge" begins April 27th and we'll talk more about that when you get back as well.
Until then-Happy Reading!

Dunk Tank! Reason 9,045 Our School is THE Best!
Our day started out with Mrs. Uber shaving Mr. Mendoza's hair and later watched Mr. Mendoza climb into a dunk tank and we did our best to get him wet! It sure pays off to stay on task and follow expectations!
Nice work, second grade!

How to Comment Information Sheet Coming Soon!
Today in class, we toggled with commenting on our new blog. It was not as easy as it seems! So, I created an email account for general use that allows you to log on and comment as student.
I will send home the details Wednesday as I won't be there tomorrow. Which also means, homework will go home Wednesday instead.
Until then, comment away using your own accounts (email). Parents, we talked today about safety on the internet.
Review this with your child so they know the rules to stay safe and respectful.
Enjoy your Monday!
Don't forget: log onto http://www.spellingcity.com/ and click "Find List" and enter my name.
Unit 5 Week 2 began today and you can find the spelling words and vocabulary list on there as well.
Oh, and Good luck to my students who will be reading their Women in History Report information on the morning news!

Spring Break! Time to Relax and Renew and of course, READ!
Spring break: we've all been anxious for it!
During the week of March 28-April 1, we all will be doing something fun, even if it's staying at home or going to a camp. If you have exciting plans, keep a journal while you go on your adventure.
I am going to blog from my family's vacation and will share my discoveries along the way and of course, share photos.
Will you do the same? During spring break, email me your pictures and I will post them to our class blog. Give me details and I can submit some information about what you're up to over the break. Email me some pictures of what you're reading and I will post those too because don't forget, you still have a reading log to submit to me April 4th!
So, send those photos to greenemi@pcsb.org and I will upload them to our "Spring Break" post.

You are Here!
This blog will feature all the happenings in my classroom from the student's point of view as well as the teacher's (me!). We do so many amazing things, that I figured it was time to share them with everyone! I will be sharing some great news for our class and posting the results of our Women's History projects.
Until then, this is a pilot program and to get started, we'll be watching Annie and Moby from 'Brainpopjr" for details on how blogs help us communicate and learn. We will follow it up with an activity about things to remember while blogging-safety on the internet is a main focal point.
